Foster commitment

What we ask of our fosters

Fostering is a big-hearted commitment — and we want to set every foster family up for success. Here’s what being a DFN foster looks like in practice.

Adoption events
Attend adoption events regularly

Fosters are expected to bring their dog to scheduled adoption events. These outings are often what gets a dog noticed and into a forever home — your presence makes a real difference.

Duration
Three-month fostering limit

Each placement is capped at 3 months to keep dogs moving toward adoption. Extensions are considered for documented medical or behavioral needs — just reach out to your rescue contact.

Daily care
Food, water & shelter — always

Your foster dog must have constant access to fresh water, regular nutritious meals, and a safe and comfortable place to rest. These are non-negotiables for every dog in our network.

Wellbeing
Grooming, enrichment & socialization

Dogs thrive with proper grooming, mental stimulation, and positive social experiences. As a foster, you’re responsible for keeping your dog healthy and happy — body and mind.

Foster rewards

Do good — and earn rewards along the way

Dog Foster Network celebrates consistent fostering with a points-based rewards program. As you care for dogs, attend events, and stay engaged, you can build points over time and move up through foster ranks. It’s our way of recognizing the time, heart, and commitment you give to rescue.
